Once again in 1982-83 Australian spectators enjoyed a spectacular summer of international one-day cricket.  More then half a million people watched the Benson and Hedges World Series Cup between Australia, England and New Zealand, and countless millions more followed the drama on television.  THE HOTTEST SUMMER mirrors the faltering progress of Australia, who nevertheless finished as victors; the misfortunes of England, who, aftr losing the Ashes, were unable to reach the one-day finals; and the galland efforts of New Zealand, whose spirited play was a constand feature of the sason.  The respective captains - Kim Hughes, Bob Wills and Geoff Howarth - each contributes his reflections on the competition, and each match is described in detail with the complete scorecards. Australia later headed for england for an unfortunate experience in the 1983 Prudential World Cup, in which India, contrary to the predictions of many, emerged triumphant.  This competition, and Australia's role in particular, is reviewed by Richie Benaud, who was present in England.  The many colour photographs have been selected for their outstanding quality, recalling moments of splendour and excitement on the international scene.
