President Theodore Roosevelt was affectionately known to American voters as good old TR. Being somewhat of a rabid warmonger, good old TR first gained national prominence as Assistant Secretary of the Navy when he advocated war with Spain in 1898. He organized and commanded the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, better known as the Rough Riders, and became famous for leading dual charges up Kettle Hill and San Juan Hill during the Spanish/American War while yelling “Charge!” In 1901 he was Vice President at age 42 when he succeeded President William McKinley as president after McKinley's assassination. As of 2008, TR is still the youngest person ever to become President.
